Probably you have already heard about the Superfood and you are wondering what this word means. Is this a food that is super delicious? Maybe super terrible? Super healthy? In any way, we can speak about Superfood only in superlatives.

What is Superfood?

The term Superfood denotes a variety of foods that have different effects and purposes of use, but they have in common a high concentration of healthy nutrients, especially vitamins (mostly B, C and E), various minerals (iron, iodine, zinc, selenium, manganese …), essential fatty acids, amino acids and plant pigments. Most of these substances have an antioxidant effect, which means that they bind free radicals that spontaneously arise all the time in the metabolism of any living organism. Free radicals cause damage at the cellular level, since they bind uncontrollably with coincidental molecules in the body and make them non-functional. The mentioned antioxidants boost the immune system and protect from several diseases.

Why is Superfood so good?

It’s very important that with the food you eat you intake large amounts of antioxidants and other substances that stimulate the natural defense mechanisms of the organism. Eating Superfoods is therefore a welcomed addition to the otherwise healthy and “detox” lifestyle.

The increased need for vitamins, minerals and other nutrients is more pronounced in pregnancy, in active sport activity, in recovery from illness or in disease itself.
